Reconciliation by providing food from the one who erred

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 2552 )
Q: We experience problems between tribes, especially among relatives and kin, most of which are criminal in nature. We intervene in them to settle matters by official orders.
As you know, the virtues of reconciliation, etc. This reconciliation involves one party entering the home of the other for a dinner or lunch, with the costs borne by the wrongdoer and those who assisted him from among the people of good. This is followed by forgiveness and closing the door to fitnah and disorder, etc. Is this meal, O honorable one, to be avoided or not?

A: If the matter is as described, and what is done is in the nature of hospitality, then there is nothing wrong with it, whether it comes from the wrongdoer, the one wronged, or a stranger. If it is in the nature of a penalty, then this is ta'zir (discretionary punishment) with money, and the ruling in this requires a Shari'ah judge. There is no harm in it if the one who pays permits it. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
