Q3: What is your opinion regarding people who pay a sum of nine thousand riyals or less to a certain person, such that he pays them for a Datsun car over the course of a year? And what is your opinion regarding people who take a Datsun car on credit for a sum of twenty-two thousand riyals? Knowing that your eminence understands that the people who engage in these transactions are among those in need. I ask you to issue a ruling on this, may Allah not
deprive us of your presence, and may He not deprive you of reward and recompense.
A3: A. This is a type of forward sale (salam), and there is no harm in it if the car is specified by description and the term is known; due to the generality of the saying of Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He):[Al-Baqarah 2:282] the verse, and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1311Sahih (Darussalam) The mention of measuring and weighing is by way of example, not restriction. B. If a person buys a car and takes possession of it through lawful possession, it is permissible for him to sell it for a deferred price to a known term, or in installments to known terms, and there is nothing wrong with that, if Allah wills. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.

O you who have believed, when you contract a debt for a specified term, write it down.
يَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا إِذَا تَدَايَنْتُمْ بِدَيْنٍ إِلَى أَجَلٍ مُسَمًّى فَاكْتُبُوهُWhoever pays in advance, then let him pay in advance for known measurements (of dates), and known weights for a specified period of time.
