The first question of Fatwa No. ( 6614 )
Q1: Does an accepted Hajj expiate major sins? And when is trade permissible during Hajj?
A1: First: It is established in the two Sahihs from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:Riyad as-Salihin 1274 It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1349a It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. So Hajj and other righteous deeds are among the means of expiating sins, if the servant performs them in their proper Shari'ah manner. However, major sins
require repentance; as stated in the Sahih of Muslim from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:Riyad as-Salihin 1149 And Imam Ibn al-Mundhir (may Allah have mercy on him) and a group of scholars held that an accepted Hajj expiates all sins; based on the apparent meaning of the two hadiths mentioned. Second: Trade is permissible during the seasons of Hajj. Al-Tabari narrated in his Tafsir, with his chain, from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) regarding the saying of Allah the Exalted: [Al-Baqarah 2:198] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

A1: First: It is established in the two Sahihs from the hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: I heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) say:
Whoever performs Hajj (pilgrimage) and does not have sexual relations (with his wife), nor commits sin, nor disputes unjustly (during Hajj), then he returns from Hajj as pure and free from sins as on the day on which his mother gave birth to him.
من حج فلم يرفث ولم يفسق رجع كيوم ولدته أمهAn Umra is an expiation for the sins committed between it and the next, and Hajj which is accepted will receive no other reward than Paradise.
العمرة إلى العمرة كفارة لما بينهما، والحج المبرور ليس له جزاء إلا الجنةrequire repentance; as stated in the Sahih of Muslim from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The five daily (prescribed) Salat, and Friday (prayer) to the next Friday (prayer), and the fasting of Ramadan to the next Ramadan, is expiation of the sins committed in between them, so long as major sins are avoided.
الصلوات الخمس، والجمعة إلى الجمعة، ورمضان إلى رمضان، مكفرات ما بينهن إذا اجتنبت الكبائرThere is no blame upon you for seeking bounty from your Lord
لَيْسَ عَلَيْكُمْ جُنَاحٌ أَنْ تَبْتَغُوا فَضْلا مِنْ رَبِّكُمْ
