Earning money from a forbidden source, then repenting to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 12240 )
Q: I ask your Eminence about a fatwa that has spread among the people from one of the scholars, stating that if a person earns money from making or selling intoxicants, or from selling narcotics, and repents to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), then this money earned through making or selling intoxicants or selling and promoting narcotics is lawful. Since many students of knowledge are asking about this, we wished to seek your Eminence’s ruling on the matter.
A: If he knew it was forbidden when he earned the haram, then it does not become lawful for him through repentance. Rather, it is obligatory for him to dispose of it by spending it in the causes of righteousness and good deeds. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
