The first question of Fatwa No. ( 20069 )
Q1: I inform you that I have an older sister who is married. One day, she took approximately five hundred riyals (500) worth of goods as a loan (on credit). An accident happened to her before she could pay this money. When I visited her in the hospital, she informed me of this matter. She stated: "I came intending to pay them their debt, but I did not get it, and I took this money." Please inform me what I should do with it? I inform you that I have a debt of approximately twenty thousand riyals. Should I pay my debt with it, or give it to her mother, or what should I do with it?
A1: If you do not know the owners of these financial rights after searching and inquiring, it is obligatory for you to give charity with it on their behalf, and your conscience is not cleared except by doing so.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
