A man’s intention not to pay the mahr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 10675 )
Q: I inform your Eminence that I am a young man about to graduate from the government college. I proposed to a girl six months ago, and her wali agreed to marry her to me. We agreed that her mahr would be one hundred thousand rupees. The custom followed among us is that the aforementioned amount is written in the official documents, but not paid in full. What I am required to pay is fifty thousand rupees in the form of jewelry and clothing. If I look at my
economic situation, I do not possess the aforementioned amount, and since I do not have what I do not have, I am unable to pay it. I have read a hadith in some books, the gist of which is: that whoever marries with money and intends not to pay it, will meet Allah on the Day of Resurrection as an adulterer. Based on this, I hope your Eminence will issue a ruling on the following: 1 - Is this hadith authentic? 2 - Assuming it is authentic, what must I do? Do I withdraw from the proposal or continue the dialogue? Knowing that the marriage has not yet taken place. 3 - Am I, in light of what I have explained to you, among those mentioned in the aforementioned hadith? May Allah protect us from it. Please inform me, may Allah reward you.

A: First:mentionedal-Mundhiriin al-Tarhib min al-Din, fromSuhayb al-Khayr(may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whichever man marries a woman and intends not to give her anything of her mahr, he will die on the day he dies as an adulterer. And whichever man buys from a man a sale and intends not to give him anything of its price, he will die on the day he dies as a traitor, and the traitor is in the Fire.

Al-Tabarani narrated it in al-Kabir. Al-Mundhiri said: In its chain is Amr ibn Dinar, who is abandoned (matruk), and on this basis, the hadith is weak. Second: The mahr is a right among the rights of the wife, and it is obligatory to fulfill it. Allah the Exalted said:
And give the women [upon marriage] their [bridal] gifts graciously. But if they give up willingly to you anything of it, then take it in satisfaction and ease.
[An-Nisa 4:4]
Third: If your intention is to fulfill her mahr and her other obligatory rights, then complete the proposal, and we hope that Allah will grant you success in your marriage. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
