Fatwa number ( 18434 )
Q: I own an orchard, and this orchard has some fruit trees. Among these fruits are the Barshumi and Sultan fig trees. Ten days or more before these fruits are fully ripe, I place something on the fruit to make it ripe before its time, in order to take advantage of the market early. So regarding this matter, I appeal to your eminence: Is this permissible, or is it not permissible? Knowing that what we place is not forbidden, nor harmful to health or to the tree on which it is placed. For this reason, I turned to your eminence. Please inform me, may Allah reward you.
A: This action you perform on the tree in order to make people think that its fruit has ripened when it has not is not permissible; because it is deception. And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 2225Da'if (Darussalam) , so it is obligatory for you to repent to Allah and leave this action; because of the harm it causes to people and the consumption of their wealth by falsehood.
