The student’s knowledge that the fruit of knowledge is action.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Second: What is the fruit of knowledge? The fruit of knowledge is action; the fruit of knowledge is action. Knowledge without action is worse than ignorance, so one must act upon what a person has learned, otherwise the ignorant person is better than him. For example, if we know that it is obligatory for a man to pray the prayers in congregation, and that performing the prayer requires presence of heart and reflection on what he says and does, then we must apply this. We must apply this, because that is the fruit. If we know that dutifulness to parents is obligatory for the mother and the father, if we know that dutifulness to parents is obligatory, then it is obligatory for us to be dutiful to them, meaning by being kind to them in speech, action, and wealth, in everything that is called dutifulness. This is because dutifulness to parents comes after the right of Allah the Exalted, as Allah the Exalted said:
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him
[An-Nisa 4:36]
And He said:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents
[Al-Isra 17:23]
Yes, Allah the Exalted said:
Worship Allah and associate nothing with Him, and to parents do good
[An-Nisa 4:36]
And He said:
And your Lord has decreed that you not worship except Him, and to parents, good treatment
[Al-Isra 17:23]
And Allah the Exalted said:
Be grateful to Me and to your parents; to Me is the [final] destination.
[Luqman 31:14]
.
And let him know that undutifulness to parents is among the greatest of major sins, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Shall I inform you of the greatest of major sins? They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. He said: Associating partners with Allah, and undutifulness to parents. He was leaning, so he sat up and said: And speaking falsehood, and giving false testimony. He kept repeating it until they said: If only he would have been silent.
.
Then let him also know that if a person is dutiful to his parents, his sons and daughters will be dutiful to him, because dutifulness, as the common people say, is a legacy. Whoever is dutiful to his parents, his children will be dutiful to him. This is an immediate reward, and the deferred reward with Allah is greater and more lasting.
