The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 1528 ):
Q4: If a person has goods, such as food, sugar, oil, or livestock, whose current value is one hundred riyals, and he wants to sell them to a debtor for one hundred and thirty riyals, for example, for a limited period, which is usually a full year, and a year or two may pass without the debtor paying, is there any prohibition in this or not? Also, if the debtor buys the goods from a warehouse or shop, and the owner counts them out to him by their specific identities, may he sell them in that location after they are counted and received, or must he take possession of them in another location?
A4: It is permissible for a person to sell food or other goods for a known deferred period, even if the deferred price is higher than their value at the time of sale. The debtor should fulfill the debt to its owner when the term arrives; due to the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:283] And because it is established from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said: Sahih al-Bukhari 2387 , and if a person buys goods from a warehouse or shop, for example, and the owner counts them out to him by their specific identities, it is not permissible for the buyer to sell them in that location merely by counting their specific identities, and that is not considered possession. Rather, for the buyer to be permitted to sell them, he must take possession of them in another location; because of what Ahmad (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Hakim ibn Hizam that he said: , and because of what Ahmad and Abu Dawud narrated from Zayd ibn Thabit Bulugh al-Maram 7:27 , and because of what Ahmad and Muslim narrated from Jabir (may Allah be pleased with him) that he said: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Sahih Muslim 1529 ,
And in a narration by Muslim, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sahih Muslim 1525d .

And if one of you entrusts another, then let him who is entrusted discharge his trust [faithfully] and let him fear Allah, his Lord.
Whoever takes the money of the people with the intention of repaying it, Allah will repay it on his behalf, and whoever takes it in order to spoil it, then Allah will spoil him.
I said: O Messenger of Allah, I buy many purchases, so what is lawful for me from them and what is forbidden? He said: If you buy something, do not sell it until you take possession of it
This is because Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) forbade that commodities to be sold in the place where they were bought, till the traders take them to their dwellings.
When you purchase foodgrains, do not sell them until you have taken possession of them.
And in a narration by Muslim, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
He who buys foodgrain should not sell it, until he has weighed it
