Q: The blood bank gives gifts to blood donors, which are a prayer mat, a medal, or a ghutra (shemagh) or other items, and sometimes three hundred riyals. I ask for clarification of the ruling of the pure Shari'ah regarding these gifts.
A: It is not permissible to sell blood; because of what is in (Sahih al-Bukhari ), from the hadith of Abu Juhayfa who said: . The Hafiz said in (al-Fath): The meaning is the prohibition of selling blood, just as the sale of carrion and pork is prohibited, and it is forbidden by consensus, I mean: selling blood and taking its price. End of quote.
