Are donations and gifts from those who trade in forbidden items acceptable?

Fatwa No. ( 2108 )
Q: Some Muslims here in Britain have gathered their wealth from both lawful and unlawful sources, because they are merchants and among the things they trade in are intoxicants and pork, and they vary in degree in this regard. Some have the majority of their wealth from unlawful sources, while others have only a small amount of their earnings from unlawful sources. Is it permissible for us
Muslims to associate with them and eat their food when we are invited, and is it permissible for us to accept their donations from this wealth for the benefit of the mosque?
A: First: You must advise them and warn them of the bad outcome of trading in forbidden items and earning wealth from unlawful sources. You should cooperate with your brothers among the people of good in reminding them and warning them of the anger of Allah and His severe punishment for those who disobey Him and fight Him by committing evil deeds. You should inform them that the goods of this world are few, and that the Hereafter is better and more lasting. If they respond, praise be to Allah, and by that they are your brothers in Allah. Then advise them to return the injustices to their owners if they know them, and to follow the bad deed with a good one; perhaps Allah will accept their repentance and replace their bad deeds with good ones. At that point, it is permissible for you to associate with them as brothers, eat their food, and accept their donations in the causes of righteousness, such as building mosques, furnishing them, and the like. This is because, through repentance and returning the injustices to their owners as far as possible, what has passed will be forgiven for them. This is based on the saying of Allah, Mighty and Majestic, regarding those who deal in usury:[Al-Baqarah 2:275] the verse. Second: If they refuse after advice, reminding, and persisting in what they are doing
of forbidden things, then it is obligatory for you to boycott them for the sake of Allah, not to respond to their invitations, and not to accept their donations; in order to deter them and to disapprove of their demands, and in the hope that they will be restrained and return from the evil deeds they are committing. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

فَمَنْ جَاءَهُ مَوْعِظَةٌ مِنْ رَبِّهِ فَانْتَهَى فَلَهُ مَا سَلَفَ وَأَمْرُهُ إِلَى اللَّهِof forbidden things, then it is obligatory for you to boycott them for the sake of Allah, not to respond to their invitations, and not to accept their donations; in order to deter them and to disapprove of their demands, and in the hope that they will be restrained and return from the evil deeds they are committing.
