Fatwa No. ( 19087 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed what was sent to His Eminence the Grand Mufti from the honorable judge of the South Khaybar Court, in his letter No. (1548) dated 5/8/1417 AH, which was referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with No. (4433) dated 12/8/1417 AH. His Excellency’s letter contained a question, the text of which is as follows: Q: One named Mubarak Awda Hazmi came to us and requested a ruling on his intention to endow a portion of his sheep so that a sacrificial animal is slaughtered from them on his behalf every year, with the endowment to take effect after his death, for review and your kind response.
with a ruling on the aforementioned matter, may Allah preserve you and benefit the Muslims with you and multiply your reward. After studying the fatwa, the Committee responded that endowing an animal is permissible, and conditioning the endowment on death is valid, and it is to be taken from one-third of the estate; because it is in the ruling of a bequest. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
