Q: I inform Your Eminence that my paternal grandfather, while he was alive, had a head of goats. He said: “This goat is an endowment for my children and their descendants; the females follow their mother, and the males are for my children, and do not deprive me of the charity from it.” It remained in this state for the duration of his life. After his death, my father succeeded him and remained on the same method. After my father’s death, my maternal grandmother, my father’s mother, took charge of it, because my father died while my mother was pregnant with me. When I grew up, I adhered to the same method that these sheep had been under until I grew older and became the head of a family. I deposited them with one of the livestock owners, and I pay a fee for them. Knowing that when they reach the age of about two months, they get sick, and some of them die, and currently there are about four heads remaining. The person who was taking care of their grazing excused himself from them, and I am a man who has become tied to a military job, and I am unable to take care of their grazing, and I did not find anyone to take care of their grazing, whether for a large amount or a small one, and I became confused about my affair. All this information about the endowment of this goat I obtained from my maternal grandmother, my father’s mother, during her lifetime, and out of fear of sin, I ask Your Eminence to guide me to the method
by which I can get rid of these sheep.
A: If the situation is as mentioned, then it is permissible for you to sell the aforementioned sheep and spend their value in acts of righteousness, including contributing to the construction of a mosque; because keeping them in their original state is difficult or impossible. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
