The second question of Fatwa No. ( 21569 )
Q 2: Is it permissible for the imam to appoint a small child to lead the people in prayer, even if he memorizes the Qur'an?
A 2 : It is obligatory for the regular imam, if something prevents him from attending his mosque, to appoint in his place someone who is qualified to lead in terms of recitation and jurisprudence, even if there is someone older than him in age; because the consideration here is good recitation and knowledge of the rulings. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
