The Time for Paying Zakat al-Fitr

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 2896 )
Q1: Is the time for paying zakat al-fitr from after the Eid prayer until the end of that day?
A1 : No, the time for zakat al-fitr does not begin after the Eid prayer; rather, it begins from the setting of the sun on the last day of Ramadan, which is the first night of Shawwal, and it ends with the Eid prayer. This is because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) ordered it to be paid before the prayer, and based on what was narrated by Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone pays it before the prayer (of 'Id), it will be accepted as zakat. If anyone pays it after the prayer, that will be a sadaqah like other sadaqahs (alms).من أداها قبل الصلاة فهي زكاة مقبولة، ومن أداها بعد الصلاة فهي صدقة من الصدقات
Sunan Abi Dawud 1609Hasan (Al-Albani)
It is permissible to pay it one or two days before that, based on what was narrated by Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) who said:
The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) made the alms of Ramadan obligatory... and he said at the end: They used to give it one or two days before that.فرض رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم صدقة الفطر من رمضان..، وقال في آخره: وكانوا يعطون قبل ذلك بيوم أو يومين
. Whoever delays it beyond its time has committed a sin, and he must repent for his delay and pay it to the poor.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
