Fatwa No. ( 20670 )
Praise be to Allah alone, and peace and blessings be upon the one after whom there is no prophet. And after: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed
What was sent to the Grand Mufti from the inquirer: The Al-Bar Association in the Al-Urayja district, and referred to the Committee by the General Secretariat of the Council of Senior Scholars with number (6115) and date 20/10/1419 AH. The inquirer asked a question, the text of which is: Charitable associations take powers of attorney from the poor to receive Zakat al-Fitr from the benefactors, but they do not distribute this Zakat until days after the festival. What is the ruling on this action?
After the Committee studied the inquiry, it answered that it is not permissible to delay paying the charity of Fitr until after the festival prayer, unless the specific recipient has appointed an agent to receive it on his behalf at the designated time for its payment, for the agent’s receipt of it at the time of payment is like the principal’s receipt. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
