Fatwa No. ( 13580 )
Q1: Your Eminence, I am an employee in the emirate of al-Qarn and my salary is four thousand five hundred riyals (4500). The debt I am bearing regarding the renovation of my family’s home is three hundred and eighty thousand riyals (380,000). I have two wives; one has thirteen dependents and the other has twelve dependents, and their needs are well known. Your Eminence, in the region of Bisha there are friends and people of good who have many date palms and a large amount of zakah due when the dates are harvested. When
the dates are harvested, they give me what their hearts are generous with from the zakah. However, there are people who order them to hand it over to the tribal deputy, who is more entitled to it; either to eat it or to hand it over to the state. Your Eminence, I ask you to answer me: is it permissible for them to give me from the zakah or not? May Allah preserve you?
A1: If the matter is as you described, it is permissible for you to take from the zakah to the extent of your need. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
