Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The twelfth question from fatwa number ( 8267 )
Q12: Is it permissible to give Islamic books as a gift to a girl whom Allah has guided and who has started wearing the hijab, or to a young man whom Allah has guided to the path of faith, using zakah money?

A12: It is not permissible to purchase books with zakah money and give them as gifts. Rather, the money must be paid directly to those who are entitled to receive it, whom Allah mentioned in His Book, saying:
Zakah expenditures are only for the poor and for the needy and for those employed to collect [zakah] and for bringing hearts togetherإِنَّمَا الصَّدَقَاتُ لِلْفُقَرَاءِ وَالْمَسَاكِينِ وَالْعَامِلِينَ عَلَيْهَا وَالْمُؤَلَّفَةِ قُلُوبُهُمْ
[At-Tawbah 9:60]
the verse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
