Q: The inquiry concerns zakah funds: Is it permissible to use them for the activities of our project, whether that is in printing books and letters,
or in paying the costs of correspondence, or in purchasing the necessary books for which we receive requests from those wishing to obtain them? Please clarify this for us, may you be rewarded.
A: It is not permissible to spend zakah on the purchase of books or their printing or the payment of postage fees; because Allah has specified the categories of zakah in His Noble Book, and He the Exalted said:[At-Tawbah 9:60] ... the verse. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
