Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 7777 )
Q1: There is a hadith from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If anyone visits the grave of his parents, or of one of them, every Friday he will be granted forgiveness and it will be recorded as filial piety.من زار قبر والديه أو أحدهما كل جمعة غفر له وكتب بارًّا
Mishkat al-Masabih 1768
. I hope you will inform me whether there is a specific supplication to be recited at the grave of one’s parents or one of them, and whether the visit should be before or after the Friday prayer, or if there is a preferred time on Friday?

A1: First: The hadith mentioned is very weak, and it is not suitable to cite it as evidence due to its weakness and its lack of authenticity from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). Second: Visiting graves is prescribed at any time, and no evidence has come that specifies Friday or any other day for visiting them. Imam Muslim (may Allah have mercy on him) narrated from Sulayman ibn Buraydah from his father (may Allah be pleased with
from both of them, he said:
the Prophet (ﷺ) taught us that when we visit graves we should say, “Peace be upon you, O believing men and women, O dwellers of this place. Certainly, Allah willing, we will join you. We supplicate to Allah to grant us and you well being.”
Bulugh al-Maram 594
, and from Ibn Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both), he said:
when God's messenger passed by some graves in Medina he turned his face towards them and said, “Peace be upon you, inhabitants of the graves. God forgive us and you. You have gone before us and we are coming after.”مر رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم بقبور المدينة فأقبل عليهم بوجهه فقال: السلام عليكم يا أهل القبور، يغفر الله لنا ولكم، أنتم سلفنا ونحن بالأثر

It was narrated by al-Tirmidhi , and he said: Good. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
