Ruling on Women Visiting Graves

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
This is a questioner for the program inquiring in his question about the ruling on visiting graves for women, O Shaykh?

Answer:
Visiting graves is a recommended practice (sunnah) for men and forbidden for women; because the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Visit the graves, for they will remind you of the Hereafter.زوروا القبور فإنها تذكركم الآخرة
Sunan Ibn Majah 1569Sahih (Darussalam)
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to visit them, and the Companions used to visit them, and he used to teach his companions when they visited graves to say:
As-salamu ‘alaykum ahlad-diyar minal-mu’minina wal- muslimin, wa inna insha’ Allah bikum lahiqun, nas’alul-laha lana wa lakumul-‘afiyah (Peace be upon you, O inhabitants of the abodes, believers and Muslims, and we will join you soon if Allah wills. We ask Allah for well-being for us and for you).السلام عليكم أهل الديار من المؤمنين والمسلمين وإنا إن شاء الله بكم لاحقون نسأل الله لنا ولكم العافية
Sunan Ibn Majah 1547Sahih (Darussalam)
, and sometimes he would say:
May Allah have mercy upon those who have gone on ahead of us and those who come later onيرحم الله المستقدمين منا والمستأخرين
Sunan an-Nasa'i 2037Sahih (Darussalam)
, and sometimes he would say:
O Allah, grant forgiveness to the inhabitants of Baqi' al-Gharqad.اللهم اغفر لأهل بقيع الغرقد
Sahih Muslim 974a
, and sometimes he would say:
May Allah forgive us and you; you are our predecessors and we are to follow you.يغفر الله لنا ولكم أنتم سلفنا ونحن بالأثر
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 1053Da'if (Darussalam)
.
As for women, no. The Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him) cursed those who visit graves, so it is not permissible for them to visit graves. This is the matter upon which the Sunnah has settled. He (peace and blessings be upon him) initially prohibited everyone from visiting graves, then he permitted everyone to do so, then he prohibited women and affirmed it for men, so the Shari'ah settled on the fact that visiting graves is a recommended practice (sunnah) for men and forbidden for women. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you.
