Q: The content is that he came across a book titled: (Al-Mukhtar wa Matali' al-Anwar) which contains the following text: From the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said in it: , and this is a great benefit that every Muslim should pray it every night for the deceased Muslims ..) etc., so is the charity and prayer in the manner mentioned prescribed and established? And is the hadith mentioned in it authentic? And who is the author of the book titled: (Al-Mukhtar wa Matali' al-Anwar), and what is the opinion of the religion if Muslims act as stated in the book?
And it answered as follows:
A: There is no doubt that the hadith mentioned in the question is one of the fabricated hadiths falsely attributed to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and there is no doubt that the charity and prayer in the manner mentioned in this fabricated hadith have no basis, and it is not prescribed for a Muslim to pray on behalf of anyone, neither on the first night the deceased is buried nor on any other night. As for charity, it is prescribed for the deceased Muslim whenever his relatives or others wish to give charity on his behalf; for what is established from the authentic hadith, , and it did not specify the night of burial or any other night. And the scholars of the people of the Sunnah and the community have agreed that the deceased Muslim benefits from charity given on his behalf and supplication for him. As for the author of the book (Al-Mukhtar wa Matali' al-Anwar), we do not know him, and we have not come across the book mentioned, but what you quoted from it indicates that he is not among the recognized scholars. So we ask Allah for us, for you, and for all Muslims to have more of beneficial knowledge and righteous deeds. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
Q: The content is that he came across a book titled: (Al-Mukhtar wa Matali' al-Anwar) which contains the following text: From the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said in it:
No night is harder for the deceased than the first night, so show mercy to your dead with charity. Whoever does not find [money] should pray two rak'ahs, reciting in them the Opening of the Book, the Verse of the Throne, and Takathur, and Qul Huwa Allahu Ahad, eleven times, and say: O Allah, I have prayed this prayer and You know what I intend. O Allah, send its reward to the grave of so-and-so, son of so-and-so. So Allah sends from that moment to his grave a thousand angels, with each angel a light and a gift, to comfort him in his grave until the Trumpet is blown. And Allah gives the one who prays good deeds equal to the number of times the sun has risen, and raises for him forty thousand degrees, and forty thousand Hajj and 'Umrah, and Allah builds for him a thousand cities in Paradise, and he is given the reward of a thousand martyrs, and he is clothed in a thousand garments

That a man asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), saying: My mother died suddenly and did not leave a bequest, and I think that if she had been able to speak, she would have given charity. Will she receive a reward if I give charity on her behalf? The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: Yes
