The third question of Fatwa number ( 4503 )

Q3: Is it permissible for a man to perform ghusl with his wife from janabah or other causes?
Vol. 3: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions... And to proceed: It is permissible for a man to take a ghusl (full ritual bath) with his wife from major ritual impurity from a single vessel. The basis for this is the hadith of Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both):
Yahya related to me from Malik from Ibn Shihab from Urwa ibn az- Zubayr from A'isha, umm al-muminin, that the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to do ghusl for major ritual impurity from a vessel which contained a faraq.
Muwatta Malik 2:69
It was narrated by Ahmad and Muslim, and from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) from Maymunah:
It was narrated from 'Uthman that: The Messenger of Allah performed ablution and ran his fingers through his beard.
Sunan Ibn Majah 430Hasan (Darussalam)
It was narrated by Ahmad and Ibn Majah, and from Ibn 'Abbas (may Allah be pleased with them both) who said:
One of the wives of the Prophet took a bath from a large vessel, then the Prophet came and had a bath or ablution, and she said: 'O Messenger of Allah, I was sexually impure.' He said: 'Water does not become impure.'
Sunan Ibn Majah 370Da'if (Darussalam)
It was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i and al-Tirmidhi , and he said: It is a good, authentic hadith. And Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i narrated from the hadith of a man who accompanied the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) who said:
Allah’s Messenger (ﷺ) forbade a women to bathe with the water left over by a man and that a man should not bathe with the water left over by a woman (but instead) they should both take scoopfuls of the water togetherنهى رسول الله صلى الله عليه وسلم أن تغتسل المرأة بفضل الرجل، والرجل بفضل المرأة، ويغترفا جميعًا
Bulugh al-Maram 7
, al-Hafiz said in (al-Fath): It was narrated by Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i and its chain of narration is authentic. And what was narrated by al-Bukhari and Muslim from Umm Salama (may Allah be pleased with her) who said:
I and Allah's Messenger would perform Ghusl for Janabah from one vessel.
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 62Sahih (Darussalam)
, and from 'A'ishah (may Allah be pleased with her) who said:
I and Allah's Messenger (Peace be upon him) took a Ghusl (bath) due to sexual impurity from the same vessel and our hands alternated into it.
Bulugh al-Maram 123
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim. And in a wording of al-Bukhari:
from a single vessel, both of us scooping water from it.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 232Sahih (Darussalam)
, and of Muslim:
and I used to wash from one vessel which stood between us, and he would get ahead of me, so that I would say, ‘Give me a chance, give me a chance.’
Mishkat al-Masabih 440
, and in a wording of al-Nasa'i :
From a single vessel, he would hasten to draw water and I would hasten to draw water, until he would say: Leave some for me, and I would say: Leave some for meمن إناء واحد يبادرني وأبادره حتى يقول: دعي لي وأنا أقول: دع لي
. From these hadiths, it becomes clear that it is permissible for a woman and a man to take a ghusl together from a single vessel. As for one of them taking a ghusl or performing wudu' (ablution) with the leftover water of the other, there is no blame on him, but it is better to avoid it when there is other water available, in order to reconcile the hadiths. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
