A man borrowed a sum of money from a marriage loan fund, but about half of this amount remains, and he has a friend who is about to get married

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : He says: O honorable Shaykh, a man borrowed a sum of money from a marriage loan fund, but about half of this amount remains, and he has a friend who is about to get married. Should he give the remainder to his friend or return it to the loan fund?

The Shaykh : It is obligatory for him to return it to the loan fund, because he is a debtor and he has the ability to pay it off. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Delaying the payment of a wealthy person is injustice. مطل الغني ظلم
Unless the debt owed to the loan fund is deferred, meaning: paid in installments, and he is confident in himself that when the time for payment arrives, he will find what to pay. In this case, there is no harm in lending to his friend or helping him as a voluntary gift. And when the due date for the installments arrives, he must pay them. However, if he does not have what to pay with and that is not expected, it is obligatory for him to pay off his debt and not help this man, because helping his brothers is a recommended practice, and paying off the debt is obligatory.
