Shortening the prayer for a distance covered in a short time

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The fourth question of Fatwa No. ( 5156 )
Q4: If a person travels by plane a long distance, but covers it in two hours or less, does this traveler shorten the prayer and break his fast in Ramadan or not? Likewise, if a person travels by car about two hundred miles or more in, say, two and a half hours, and returns to his house in the evening, and shortens the prayer, saying: This is a gift from Allah, so accept His gift, is this shortening permissible, or is it not permissible unless there is hardship and fatigue in the travel?
A4: Shortening the prayer for a distance such as that mentioned is a recommended practice (sunnah), and breaking the fast for such a distance is a dispensation (rukhsah) for the traveler, whether he covers it in a long time or a short time, an hour or less or more, and whether he experiences hardship or not; because the matter lies in the travel itself, even if the hardship does not actually occur, and that is from the favor and mercy of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) toward His servants. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and companions.
