Prayer is not waived for the sick person as long as his mind is with him

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 7307 )
Q: A man was afflicted with an illness and was performing the obligatory prayer and fasting, and then his illness intensified and the month of
Ramadan came upon him, so he did not fast and did not pray due to the severity of the illness,
and Allah took his soul while he had the fasting of Ramadan and his prayers remaining. We ask you to inform us in writing, and may Allah reward you with good.

A: First: If the illness continued with him until he died, or if he recovered from it but was unable to make up the fasting of Ramadan, then he owes no expiation, and you owe no making up of the fast on his behalf; because of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
and has not placed upon you in the religion any difficultyوَمَا جَعَلَ عَلَيْكُمْ فِي الدِّينِ مِنْ حَرَجٍ
[Al-Hajj 22:78]
and His saying:
Allah does not charge a soul except [with that within] its capacityلاَ يُكَلِّفُ اللَّهُ نَفْسًا إِلا وُسْعَهَا
[Al-Baqarah 2:286]
and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
And if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can.إذا أمرتكم بأمر فأتوا منه ما استطعتم
Sahih al-Bukhari 7288
. Second: The five prayers are obligatory every day and night upon every Muslim as long as he is of sound mind; they are not waived by illness, even if it is severe. Therefore, he must perform them in their time to the best of his ability, even by gesturing. Accordingly, the sick person you mentioned who left off prayer due to the severity of his illness was in error, and his matter is left to Allah, and it is not valid for you to make up the prayers on his behalf. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
