Reciting in the prayer in a language other than Arabic

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa number ( 4211 )
Q1: Is it permissible to pray in a language other than Arabic?
A1: It is not permissible to pray in a language other than Arabic if one is able to do so. It is obligatory for the Muslim to learn from the religion in Arabic what he cannot afford to be ignorant of, and among this is learning Surat al-Fatihah, the tashahhud, the taslim, the tahmid, the tasbih in ruku' and sujud, "Rabbi ighfir li" between the two prostrations, and the taslim. As for the one who is unable to learn Arabic, he must recite what was mentioned in his own language, except for al-Fatihah, for it is not valid to recite it in anything other than Arabic, and the same applies to the rest of the Qur'an. He must recite in its place the tasbih, tahmid, tahlil, and takbir. This is based on the hadith of Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
a man who came to the Prophet and said, “I am unable to learn any of the Qur’an, so teach me something which will suffice me.” He told him to say, “Glory be to God; Praise be to God; There is no god but God; God is most great; There is no might and no power except in God.”
Mishkat al-Masabih 858
This hadith was narrated by Ahmad and Abu Dawud and al-Nasa'i , and it was graded authentic by Ibn Hibban and al-Daraqutni and al-Hakim . This is also based on the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He):
So fear Allah as much as you are ableفَاتَّقُوا اللَّهَ مَا اسْتَطَعْتُمْ
[At-Taghabun 64:16]
and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
And if I order you to do something, then do of it as much as you can.إذا أمرتكم بأمر فأتوا منه ما استطعتم
Sahih al-Bukhari 7288
, until he learns the Arabic language, and he must hasten to do so.
And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
