Placing bricks at the time of burial

Fatwa number ( 839 )
Q: If bricks are not available at the time of burial, what is better: burying directly with soil without any barrier, or placing stones or wood instead of bricks to prevent the soil from directly touching the deceased?
A: There is leeway in this matter. One should use whatever is available, whether bricks, stones, or wood, to place a barrier between the soil and the deceased. If nothing is found to prevent the soil from touching him, the deceased is buried even if the soil touches him directly. This is based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Baqarah 2:286] and His saying, Glorified is He: [At-Taghabun 64:16] And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
