When there is difficulty in matters of religion, who is the one to ask?

Fatwa number ( 19270 )
Q: When I am faced with a difficulty in one of the matters of my religion, such as prayer, fasting, Hajj, transactions, or divorce, is it sufficient for me to take the opinion of one scholar from among the Muslim scholars who are known for their knowledge, righteousness, and piety, and who are qualified to issue fatwas, such as a member of the Committee of Senior Scholars, or someone of similar standing, and to adopt his answer as a fixed ruling and adhere to it? Or is it obligatory for me to go to many of them with the matter that is difficult for me, and then choose from their opinions whatever suits me in the event of a difference between them?
A: If something in your religion is difficult for you, then you must ask the people of knowledge; as Allah the Exalted said:
So ask the people of the message if you do not know.فَاسْأَلُوا أَهْلَ الذِّكْرِ إِنْ كُنْتُمْ لاَ تَعْلَمُونَ
[An-Nahl 16:43]
If the one you trust in his knowledge and piety issues a fatwa for you, then you must adhere to that fatwa. It is not permissible for a person to ask a number of scholars in order to choose from their fatwas the easiest one for him, or the one that agrees with his desire and opinion. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
