The Ummah’s Need for Those Who Illuminate Its Religious Matters

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
Shaykh Abdulaziz! How great is our need to ask about the matters of our religion. Do you not see that it is obligatory for there to be people who are fully dedicated, whose concern is issuing fatwas to people regarding the questions that come to them, even if by telephone?

Answer:
This is one of the most important matters, and this program is of this kind. This program, and praise be to Allah, the program "Nur 'ala al-Darb" (Light on the Path), is fulfilling this mission. If it becomes easy for scholars to do this as well, as a support for this program, that would be a great good.
The point is that this program, praise be to Allah, contains a great good, and it may have fulfilled the collective obligation (fard kifayah). If it becomes easy for scholars—in the mosques and in their homes—to issue fatwas to people, if they have knowledge and insight, based on what Allah and His Messenger said, that is a good leading to a good, and it also lightens the burden on this program.
So the result is: this program contains a great good, praise be to Allah, and it has fulfilled a major duty in issuing fatwas to people from inside and outside, and in resolving problems with Islamic legal evidence. So we ask Allah to grant success to those in charge of it and to assist them, and to grant them insight, sincerity, and truthfulness, and to grant success to all Muslims everywhere in what brings Him pleasure, and in what brings their well-being and salvation, and to grant success to the scholars of the Muslims everywhere and in every country to fulfill the duty, to guide people to good, and to teach them what benefits them in their religion, with attention to what Allah and His Messenger said, and that the fatwa be in light of the speech of Allah and the speech of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), not by mere opinions. And Allah is the One to be sought for help.

The presenter: Allah is the One to be sought for help. May Allah reward you with good. Do you not see that a person should also dedicate himself to this topic, Shaykh Abdulaziz, in support of this program?

The Shaykh: If this becomes easy, that is good. If it becomes easy for one who is qualified for it, from those of knowledge and insight, in his home or in any place, may Allah reward him with good. Good. People are in need of thousands of muftis and guides, and are in need in every place. Yes.

The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
