Traveling for Study and Residing with Disbelievers

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first and second questions from Fatwa No. ( 2358 )
Q1: Is it permissible to travel to America for study?
A1: It is not permissible for you to take knowledge except from its trustworthy and reliable people, especially religious and Arabic sciences, and these are available, praise be to Allah, in the Islamic countries. Therefore, it is not permissible for you to travel to the disbeliever countries
for study there, except for worldly sciences that you cannot study among the Muslims in the Islamic countries, such as medicine and engineering and the like, and it is not feasible to bring in the trustworthy specialists in cosmic sciences who are needed to teach them to Muslim students in the Islamic country; and your nation is in dire necessity of these sciences to suffice with its own children after graduation to fulfill what it needs, instead of bringing in disbelievers to do so; and you are yourself protected in your religion by Islamic culture, so that there is no fear of fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) for you during your study in the disbeliever countries, and your residence among them for the duration of the study, then it is permissible for you at that time to travel to the disbeliever countries for study, and America and the like are the same in this regard.
