The first question of Fatwa No. ( 6196 )
Q1: I am a young man whom Allah has guided to His obedience. I pray all five prayers, except that at times I am overcome by sleep regarding the Fajr prayer and do not wake up until after the sun has risen. Is it permissible for me to pray at that time, and how does a worshipper make up a prayer that he missed, for example: the 'Asr prayer if it is missed from its time? Do I make it up with the next day or with Maghrib?
A1: As for the prayers you slept through until their time passed, or that you forgot, pray them when you wake up from your sleep or when you remember, even if your waking or remembering is at the rising of the sun or its setting; for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said: . As for what you left of the five prayers intentionally, while acknowledging
its obligation, until its time passed, the correct of the scholars' opinions is that that is major shirk (associating partners with Allah) and there is no making up for you, but rather upon you is repentance and seeking forgiveness, and regret for what has passed, and maintaining the five prayers in their time; for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Sunan Ibn Majah 1079Sahih (Darussalam) . And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him): Sahih Muslim 82b . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family and his Companions.
