Leaving doubts and obsessive thoughts
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of fatwa number (1318)
Q 1: It happened that once, while performing wudu', someone drew his attention to a spot on his foot that had not been reached by water. On another occasion, someone drew his attention to a similar spot. This caused him to doubt whether his previous wudu' was valid. He asks about his previous state in which he doubts the validity of his wudu', and likewise his ghusl from janabah. Should he repeat his prayers, or what should he do?
A 1: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions... As for the fact that the questioner was drawn to a spot on his foot once or twice that water did not reach when he performed wudu', this does not mean that his other acts of purification are invalid. This is because the original state is that he performed a valid wudu', and the original state is not invalidated by doubts. The same applies to his ghusl from janabah. We advise the questioner, may Allah grant him understanding, to leave doubts and obsessive thoughts aside, and not to pay attention to anything except facts he knows without doubt. Therefore, his previous purification is valid, and his prayers performed with it are valid. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
