Fatwa No. ( 10892 )
Q: If the imam says (Allahu Akbar) in the takbir of ihram, and the ma'mum say (Allahu Akbar) behind the imam by raising their voices, while for the rest
of the takbirs of the prayer they do not raise their voices with them, is it permissible for the ma'mum to raise their voices with the takbir of ihram behind the imam, or not?
A: It is prescribed for the imam to raise his voice in all the takbirs so that those behind him can hear him. As for the one praying behind the imam, what is prescribed for him is not to raise his voice, whether in the first takbir or the others; he should only say the takbir in a way that he can hear himself. In fact, raising the voice in the takbir by the people praying behind the imam is an innovation in the religion, and it is prohibited by the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih Muslim 1718a . And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
