Praise be to Allah alone, and may peace and blessings be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions. And to proceed: The Permanent Committee for Scholarly Research and Ifta has reviewed the question submitted by Dr. Shaykh Harun to His Eminence the President , which was referred to the Committee with number 1284 on 1/7/1402 AH. The text of the question is: (Is it permissible to recite the national anthem in the mosque or not? The national anthem is: (Our land is the green land of Guyana): 1 - O Guyana, our beloved land - the land of rivers and plains
Rich with the light of the sun and flourishing with rain, like a beautiful jewel between the mountains and the sea. Your children love you, O land of freedom. 2 - O green land of Guyana, our heroes sacrifice themselves for you. All the prisoners and the free place their bones on your shores. This land they sanctify, and from these heroes, all the sons of one mother. O land of freedom. 3 - O great land of Guyana, even if we part from our ancestors, we are the fruits of their sacrifice and the inheritance of their suffering. They are our pride, even if they did not see it. O land of the one for six united and free peoples. 4 - O land of Guyana, to you we offer our loyalty and service. Every day we live in, Allah guards you, O our great mother, and make us righteous to our heritage, O land of freedom.
And it answered as follows: It is not permissible in the Shari'ah to recite this national anthem and its like in the mosques; because they were established for prayer, dhikr, tasbih, tahmid, tahlil, takbir, recitation of the Qur'an, teaching, guidance, and the like of acts of drawing near to Allah. Therefore, it is not befitting to sing in them an anthem that praises the greenness of the land of Guyana, its flourishing, the freedom of its land, the unity of its peoples, their coming to it, and their declaration of loyalty to it
and their greeting and sanctification of it. This and its like are not befitting for the mosques that were built for the worship of Allah and drawing near to Him. Allah the Exalted said:[An-Nur 24:36-38] Therefore, Muslims must respect the houses of Allah and enliven them with what raises their status in the Shari'ah: worship, acts of drawing near, teaching, preaching, guidance, calling to jihad, and supporting Islam. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.

(36) [Such niches are] in mosques which Allah has ordered to be raised and that His name be mentioned therein; exalting Him within them in the morning and the evenings (37) [Are] men whom neither commerce nor sale distracts from the remembrance of Allah and performance of prayer and giving of zakah. They fear a Day in which the hearts and eyes will [fearfully] turn about - (38) That Allah may reward them [according to] the best of what they did and increase them from His bounty. And Allah gives provision to whom He wills without account.
