Q: Please issue a ruling on the following, may Allah reward you: Is it permissible to perform wudu for prayer with seawater? If I am near the sea and I have fresh water available, should I perform wudu with the fresh water or the seawater? It is said that it is not permissible to perform wudu with seawater except in cases of necessity, and some say that it is not permissible to perform wudu with it at all. A: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions... And after: It is permissible for you to perform wudu with seawater; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Its water is pure and what dies in it is lawful food.
هو الطهور ماؤه الحل ميتتهAnd success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
