Question 6 from Fatwa No. ( 4029 ):
Q6: Please rule on the authenticity of this hadith:
Indeed, Allah has servants to whom people turn in their needs, and they are the safe ones on the Day of Resurrectionإن لله عبادًا يفزع الناس إليهم في حوائجهم وهم الآمنون يوم القيامة
?

Vol. 6:mentionedal-Suyutiin [al-Jami' al-Saghir] thatal-Tabaraninarrated it in [al-Kabir] fromIbn 'Umar(may Allah be pleased with them both) with the wording:
Indeed, Allah has servants He chose for the needs of people, to whom people turn in their needs; those are the ones safe from the punishment of Allahإن لله عبادًا اختصهم بحوائج الناس، يفزع الناس إليهم في حوائجهم، أولئك الآمنون من عذاب الله
and he indicated it with the symbols of hasan, and mentionedal-Manawiin [Fayd al-Qadir]: that the wording of al-Tabarani's narrational-Tabaraniin it is: "creatures He created for the needs of people" instead of: "servants He chose for them" and he said: al-Haythami saidal-Haythamiin it is a person whom the majority have criticizedand Ahmad ibn Tariqthe narrator from whom he narrated is unknown to me, and the rest of its narrators are the narrators of the authentic collections. This indicates that the hadith is weak in its chain. Even if it were authentic, it would serve as an encouragement to fulfill the needs of people, such as giving money, teaching knowledge, guiding a questioner, and helping a distressed person. This is to be done by the living, not the dead. It also indicates the permissibility of seeking help from the living in fulfilling benefits and repelling harm, by taking the ordinary means while relying on Allah. It does not indicate turning to the dead or seeking refuge in them for fulfilling needs or relieving distress, because the texts indicate that doing so is associating partners with Allah the Exalted. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
