Acquiring Commemorative Pictures

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa No. ( 7903 ):
Q2: What is the ruling on the pictures found in the Islamic newspapers and magazines that we buy, and likewise the ruling on commemorative pictures that are not hung on the wall? Is it permissible to acquire and keep them?
A2: It is not permissible to acquire commemorative pictures; rather, they must be destroyed. This is based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to Ali (may Allah be pleased with him):
Spare no portrait unwiped out, and leave not a high grave unlevelled.ألا تدع صورة إلاَّ طمستها، ولا قبرًا مشرفًا إلاَّ سويته
Riyad as-Salihin 1687
Narrated by the Imam Muslim in his Sahih. However, if you find pictures in a book, magazine, or newspaper and you need to acquire it, erase the pictures, even if it is just the faces, and keep it with you for the need.
And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
