Keeping Some Taxidermied Birds for Appearance or as an Ornament
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 4998 ):
Q1: There are some birds, such as pigeons and falcons, that are taxidermied and sold in the markets for appearance or as an ornament. Since these birds are among the creation of Allah and there is no alteration in them, we desire from your eminence what is the ruling on one who places them in his home?
A1: This is not considered image-making, nor imitating the creation of Allah, nor keeping the images about which prohibition was mentioned in the hadiths. However, taking them merely to be an ornament in homes involves wasting money if they are of the type whose meat is eaten, and destroying an animal that is of benefit if it is of the type of falcons, without any lawful benefit behind that. This is in addition to the extravagance in the costs of taxidermy and the fact that it is a means to keeping statues in houses and the like, so this is prohibited. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
