Keeping Taxidermied Birds and Animals
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa No. ( 5350 ):
Q: Recently, the phenomenon of selling taxidermied animals and birds has emerged. We hope that, after reviewing this, Your Eminence will issue a ruling on the keeping of taxidermied animals and birds, and on the ruling regarding the sale of what has been mentioned. Is there a difference between what is forbidden to keep alive and what is permissible to keep alive in the case of taxidermy? And what should the muhtasib (market inspector) do regarding this phenomenon?
A: Keeping taxidermied birds and animals, whether it is what is forbidden to keep alive or what is permissible to keep alive, involves wasting money and extravagance and squandering in the costs of taxidermy. Allah has forbidden extravagance and squandering, and the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade wasting money. Furthermore, this is a means to taking birds and other living creatures, hanging them up, and displaying them, which is forbidden. Therefore, it is not permissible to sell them or keep them. The muhtasib should make it clear to people that they are prohibited and should prevent the phenomenon of their circulation in the markets. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his companions.
