The boards bearing the name of Allah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 1871 ):
Q: The sale of boards hung on the wall with the Verse of the Throne written on them is carried out; they are hung in rooms as a sign of honor and pride in the Noble Qur'an. Is it forbidden to sell such boards in the markets and import them into the Kingdom?
A: The Qur'an was revealed to be a proof against all the worlds, and a constitution
and a methodology for all Muslims, whereby they make lawful what it has made lawful and forbidden what it has forbidden, they act in accordance with its clear verses and believe in its ambiguous ones. It is preserved in the breasts and written in mushafs, scraps of paper, boards, and the like, for the purpose of referring to it and reciting from it when needed. This is what the earliest Muslims understood and their practice was based upon. As for what has begun to appear in these times, namely writing parts of the Qur'an on a decorated board or scrap of paper and hanging it in a room, car, or the like, this was not the practice of the Salaf. There may be harms in this that are greater than what the writer or hanger intended by honoring it and taking pride in it, such as occupying those who engage in it from attending to the purposes for which the Qur'an was revealed. Therefore, it is better for the Muslim to leave these things and stay away from dealing in them, even though the original ruling regarding them is permissibility, out of fear that their use and dealing in them will become widespread and distract people from what is intended by the Qur'an. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
