Fatwa No. ( 8848 ):
Q: Is it permissible for a Muslim to participate with the Christians in their festivals, known as (Christmas), which takes place at the end of December – or not? We have some people who claim to be scholars, but they sit in the gatherings of the Christians during their festival and say that it is permissible. Is their statement correct or not? And do they have any scriptural evidence for its permissibility or not?
A: It is not permissible to participate with the Christians in their festivals, even if one who claims to be a scholar participates with them in them; because of the increase in their numbers and the assistance in sin that this entails. Allah the Exalted said:[Al-Ma'idah 5:2] the verse. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
