Standing in reverence for the national anthem
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Fatwa number ( 2123 ):
Q: Is it permissible to stand in reverence for any national anthem or national flag?
A: It is not permissible for a Muslim to stand in reverence for any national flag or national anthem. Rather, it is one of the denounced religious innovations that did not exist in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), nor in the time of his Rightly Guided Caliphs (may Allah be pleased with them). It contradicts the perfection of the obligatory tawhid (the oneness of Allah) and the sincerity of revering Allah alone. It is a means to shirk (associating partners with Allah), and it involves imitating the disbelievers and following them in their ugly customs and accommodating them in their exaggeration regarding their leaders and their ceremonies. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade imitating them or resembling them. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
