The Standing of People During the Recitation of Verses of Exaltation

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The first question of Fatwa No. ( 6257 ):
Q1: Is it part of the Sunnah for the attendees to stand when the verses of exaltation are recited at the celebrations held on the occasion of the birth of the Noble Prophet?
A1: Holding a celebration or celebrations on the occasion of the birth of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) is an invented religious innovation. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not legislate it, neither by word nor by deed, and his Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did not celebrate his birth, although they were the people who knew his status best and were the most attentive to his rights. It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
He who did any act for which there is no sanction from our behalf, that is to be rejected.من عمل عملاً ليس عليه أمرنا فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718b
And in another narration:
'A'isha reported Allah's Messenger (ﷺ) as saying: He who innovates things in our affairs for which there is no valid (reason) (commits sin) and these are to be rejected.من أحدث في أمرنا هذا ما ليس منه فهو رد
Sahih Muslim 1718a
,
and all good lies in following him (peace and blessings be upon him) and taking guidance from the path of his Rightly Guided Caliphs after him, and all evil lies in turning away from their methodology. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
