Is al-Khidr a prophet?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q2: Is al-Khidr a prophet or a righteous man?
A2: The correct view is that al-Khidr (peace be upon him) is a prophet, as Allah the Exalted mentioned in Surat al-Kahf regarding his story with Moses (peace be upon them both). In it, he is described as having breached a ship belonging to poor men who worked in the sea, killed a boy who had not committed a crime, and built up a wall for two orphans without pay in a village whose people refused to feed them. Moses denied all of this to him, so he explained the reason to him in the end, and then
the story concluded by stating that all of this was from him by revelation from Allah, as indicated by what Allah reported of His saying:
And I did it not of my own accord. That is the interpretation of that about which you could not have patience."وَمَا فَعَلْتُهُ عَنْ أَمْرِي ذَلِكَ تَأْوِيلُ مَا لَمْ تَسْطِعْ عَلَيْهِ صَبْرًا
[Al-Kahf 18:82]
. And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
