The eleventh question of Fatwa No. ( 1615 ):


Q11: What is the report regarding the Expected Mahdi and the descent of 'Isa (peace be upon him)?
A11: As for what concerns the Mahdi, there are hadiths indicating that he will rule this Ummah. You should refer to [Sunan Abu Dawud ] and [Sunan Ibn Majah ] and other books of the Sunnah, as these hadiths are mentioned in them. There is nothing in the authentic hadiths indicating a specific time for his appearance. Similarly, regarding the descent of 'Isa (peace be upon him), you should refer to the book [Al-Tasrih fi Ma Tawatara fi Nuzul al-Masih] (The Clarification of What Is Mass-Transmitted Regarding the Descent of the Messiah) (peace be upon him), and [Tafsir Ibn Kathir ] at
the saying of Allah the Exalted:
Rather, Allah raised him to Himselfبَلْ رَفَعَهُ اللَّهُ إِلَيْهِ
[An-Nisa 4:158]
, in Surat al-Nisa. To our knowledge, there is nothing in the authentic hadiths indicating a specific time for his descent, but they state that he will descend when the Dajjal emerges. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
