The meaning of the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) to which the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) pointed toward the East

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The second question of Fatwa number ( 6667 ):
Q2: What is the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) that he (peace and blessings be upon him) mentions in this hadith: It was narrated from 'Abdullah ibn 'Umar that he heard the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) — while facing the East — say:
Behold, turmoil would appear from this side, from where the horns of Satan would appear.
Sahih Muslim 2905a
?

Part 2: The term fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) here means kufr (disbelief), and it is reported in a narration by Muslim , from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The summit of unbelief is towards the East
Sahih Muslim 52d
This is the end of the text. It was also transmitted from the Qadi Iyadh , and his exact wording is: It was said that by the East he means: Persia ; because at that time it was a great land, but this was refuted by his statement in the rest of the hadith (the people of the desert), and the Persians are not people of the desert. It was also said that he means: Najd , the dwelling place of Rabi'ah and Mudar , and it is the East; because of his statement in the hadith of Ibn 'Umar when he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen." The People said, "And also on our Najd." He said, "O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Sham (north)! O Allah! Bestow Your blessings on our Yemen." The people said, "O Allah's Apostle! And also on our Najd." I think the third time the Prophet (ﷺ) said, "There (in Najd) is the place of earthquakes and afflictions and from there comes out the side of the head of Satan."اللهم بارك لنا في يمننا وشامنا، قالوا: وفي نجدنا يا رسول الله، قال: هنالك الزلازل والطاعون، وبها يطلع قرن الشيطان
Sahih al-Bukhari 7094
, and in the other when he said:
O Allah, tighten Your grip on Mudar
Sunan Ibn Majah 1244Sahih (Darussalam)
, and the people of the East at that time from Mudar were opposing him, and for his cursing of Mudar in other places. And Hudhayfah said: Do not leave a single slave of Allah from Mudar but they will try them and kill them. And likewise, he said to them when Hudhayfah entered upon 'Uthman and they filled the room and the house: The darkness of Mudar will not cease from every believing slave of Allah but they will try him and kill him. And it was said that he means: what occurred in Iraq in the early period of severe fitnah (trial, discord or temptation); such as the Day of the Camel, Siffin , and Harura, and the fitnahs (trials, discords or temptations) of the Banu Umayyah, and the emergence of the callers of the Banu 'Abbas, and the shaking of the earth is a fitnah (trial, discord or temptation), and every
of that was to the east of Najd and Iraq . And it was mentioned in the hadith of the Khawarij : "A group will emerge from the East," and the kufr (disbelief) in this case is kufr of ingratitude. It was also said: It means: actual kufr (disbelief), and its head is the Dajjal (the false messiah); because he will emerge from the East. End of quote. And al-Nawawi said in his commentary on Muslim regarding his (peace and blessings be upon him) statement:
where emerge the two horns of Satan, they are the tribes of Rabi'a and Mudar.
Sahih Muslim 51
: As for the horns of Shaytan (Satan): they are the two sides of his head. It was also said: They are his two companions whom he incites to mislead people. It was also said: They are his followers from among the disbelievers. And the meaning of that is: the specific attribution of the East to an increase in the power of Shaytan (Satan) and of kufr (disbelief), as he said in the other hadith:
The summit of unbelief is towards the East
Sahih Muslim 52d
. And that was during his (peace and blessings be upon him) time when he said that, and it will be when the Dajjal (the false messiah) emerges from the East, and in between that is the origin of the great fitnahs (trials, discords or temptations), and the place where the overwhelming, arrogant, severe, and terrible Turk disbelievers are scattered. End of quote. And it appears that the hadith encompasses all of the Near East, Far East, and Middle East, and among that is the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) of Musaylimah and the fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) of the apostates from Rabi'ah and Mudar and others in the Arabian Peninsula . And success is from Allah. And may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
