Q: Ifmy father left me a bequest during his lifetime to give charity to the best of my ability, specifically on the night of the middle of Sha'ban every year,and in fact, I have been doing so until now, but some people have criticized me for it, saying: It may not be permissible. So, is this charity on the night of the middle of Sha'ban permissible in accordance with my father's bequest, or is it not permissible? Please issue a ruling for us, may Allah reward you with good.
A: Specifying this charity for the middle of Sha'ban every year is a religious innovation that is not permissible, even if your father willed it. You must carry out this charity, but do not restrict it to the middle of Sha'ban. Instead, make it in any month of the year without specifying a particular month, and the best time is Ramadan. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
