A Note on the Use of the Word "Siddah" (Lady)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : However, I have a remark regarding her statement. What is it? She says: "I am a lady. I am a lady." This is self-praise. Does a man say: "I am a master"? It is the woman who says: "I am a lady." This title is adopted from non-Muslims, because non-Muslims sanctify women and elevate them above their proper status. So people have become accustomed to calling a woman "the lady." The strange thing is that if you look through the books of hadith, in which their authors transmit what they narrate from Aisha, the Mothers of the Believers, and others, you will not find a single one who said: "The Lady Aisha," not ever. People today, when they mention Aisha, say: "The Lady." They do not say: "The Master Abu Bakr," even though Abu Bakr is higher in rank than she is and more deserving of the title of mastery. Men are the masters. Women are captives in the hands of men. I say this based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And they found her master at the door وَأَلْفَيَا سَيِّدَهَا لَدَى الْبَابِ
. I say this based on the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And due to the wives is similar to what is expected of them, according to what is reasonable. But the men have a degree over them [in responsibility and authority]. وَلَهُنَّ مِثْلُ الَّذِي عَلَيْهِنَّ بِالْمَعْرُوفِ وَلِلرِّجَالِ عَلَيْهِنَّ دَرَجَةٌ
[Al-Baqarah 2:228]
. I say this based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Fear Allah regarding women, for they are captives among you اتقوا الله في النساء فإنهن عوانٌ عندكم
. I do not intend by this to belittle women. Rather, their rights are upon our heads. Daughters are the mothers of the future, and mothers are the mothers of the present. But I want the woman to be in the position where Allah Mighty and Majestic has placed her, because that is more concealing for her, more protective for her, more preserving of her religion, and better for society. Let not the state of the disbelieving nations deceive the woman; the disbelieving nations are greater in disbelief. But she should follow whom? The Mothers of the Believers, the women of the Companions. What did they do? What did they say? What did they leave behind? So the word
Ladyسيدة
, strike it from the dictionary. Strike it with a pen. Which pen? The red one? Fine. In any case, erase it from the dictionary with whatever pen. Tell the woman: The woman, as I hear, in fact, it is said that in some places they write on the bathrooms: "This is for men and this is for ladies." This is belittling, belittling the rights of men. Is that not so? I mean, does a man not get upset if he sees the woman is a "lady" while he is just a man? Yes? But what is it? Blind imitation. We ask Allah for safety.
