The Treatment of Sorcery Permitted by the Shari'ah

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q4: What is the treatment of sorcery permitted by the Shari'ah, and is it permissible to use sedative medications? Knowing that they contain a narcotic substance which is common in the treatment of mental illnesses, and what is our position regarding them after we have advised her?
That what she is doing is shirk (associating partners with Allah), and after we read your answer to her, if Allah wills? And is she considered a mushrikah (one who associates partners with Allah)? Knowing that in her condition she suffers from a type of waswas (whispers of doubt), and if you had seen her condition, you would have said: she is insane when the illness is severe upon her, but when the mental illness subsides, she is one of the most intelligent of women.

A4: First: It is not permissible to treat sorcery with sorcery, but it is treated with ruqyah (healing by Qur'anic recitation); by reciting the Qur'an, the Prophetic dhikr (remembrance of Allah) reported in ruqyah, and by du'a' (supplication) and seeking healing from Allah. In [Al-Kalim al-Tayyib] by Ibn Taymiyyah, [Al-Wabil al-Sayyib] by Ibn al-Qayyim , and [Riyad al-Salihin] and [Al-Adhkar al-Nawawiyyah] by al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on them), there are many beneficial dhikr and du'a' in this regard. So read in these books and their like; to be guided by them for yourself, your family, and those you love. Second: Continue in advising your mother and disapproving of her actions, while observing proper conduct, and treat her in this world with kindness; due to the generality of the saying of Allah the Exalted:
And We have enjoined upon man [care] for his parents. His mother carried him, [increasing her] in weakness upon weaknessوَوَصَّيْنَا الْإِنْسَانَ بِوَالِدَيْهِ حَمَلَتْهُ أُمُّهُ وَهْنًا عَلَى وَهْنٍ
[Luqman 31:14]
up to His saying:
But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness and follow the way of those who turn back to Meوَإِنْ جَاهَدَاكَ عَلَى أَنْ تُشْرِكَ بِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًا وَاتَّبِعْ سَبِيلَ مَنْ أَنَابَ إِلَيَّ
[Luqman 31:15]
the verse.
Third: If her condition when the illness is severe is as you mentioned, that she is like an insane person, then that may be considered an excuse, and it is hoped that Allah will forgive what occurred from her in that state. And Allah is the Healer and the Guide to the straight path. And success is from Allah. May Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
